Mkers closes major deal to transfer Italian player to reigning world champions and announces team's withdrawal from Rainbow Six Siege
Mkers and G2 Esports announce the signing of an important agreement for the transfer of Rainbow Six Siege proplayer Luigi "Gemini" Ferrigno.G2 Esports represents one of the most prestigious and competitive esports organisations in the world and will offer Luigi the chance to compete on the most important stages of the international esports scene.
Gemini has been part of Team Mkers since 2020 and in recent years has racked up a series of successes with his teammates, such as winning the Italian Cup, numerous victories in the PG Nationals circuit but above all qualifying for the Six Invitational in 2021, the first and only participation ever for an Italian team.
"Gemini, with his experience and proven skills, has proven to be one of the best Rainbow Six Siege players around, we therefore believe he deserves to serve in a Tier 1 team," says Diego Hicham Aazzi, Esports Manager at Mkers.
"We have proven on several occasions that we are the most successful competitive reality at the Italian level and among the leading players on the European scene. This, however, was not enough to obtain an access slot in the Pro League, despite continuous dialogue with the publisher. The relevance of the national competitive scene is penalised by the very weight of the Italian market of Rainbow Six Siege compared to other countries. Moreover, the small number of investors, often only endemic to the industry, does not favour the development of a competitive circuit such that the large international organisers have an interest in providing Italy with the same access and participation modalities. Therefore, the fundamental prerequisites for Mkers to continue to invest in the competitive Rainbow Six are lacking. As soon as the title's professional circuit guarantees Italian teams equal access to competitions compared to other European and global nations, we will be ready to return to the international stage again," concludes Aazzi.
Mkers is extremely proud to have been able to accompany numerous young Italian talents on a path of growth and success throughout its history. It therefore wishes to express its gratitude for the constant commitment shown in carrying on the organisation's colours.
The agreement with G2 Esports represents a step forward in the growth strategy of Mkers, which, with this top-level transfer-market operation, confirms itself as a point of reference in the Italian and international esports world, ready to support and enhance emerging talents.
